Win or lose, these Cubs are a tight-knit group

MILWAUKEE — On Tuesday afternoon, the volume on the televisions in the Chicago Cubs clubhouse was up just high enough that everyone in the room could hear the singing. The TVs were tuned to The MLB Network, and there were Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo and several other Cubs belting out karaoke on Sunday night at a Chicago bar.

“You guys are embarrassing us,” Kris Bryant joked as he looked on.

“It’s pretty good,” Fowler responded as he moved closer to the television for a better look.

As you know by now, these Cubs like to have fun, and it’s not just because their manager encourages it. Several players insist this is the tightest team they’ve ever been on.

“For sure,” Fowler said. “Just good guys. We like to be around each other.”

That can be unusual in a clubhouse setting. There are so many different personalities in a major league clubhouse, but this team sets all that aside. Maybe it’s because they’re winning, or maybe they simply enjoy one another’s company. One thing is for sure: Spending time together can’t hurt the chemistry of the team — it can only help it.
