O’Neill fine with Preakness draw

Reddam Racing Grade 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands winner Nyquist drew post 3 and was tabbed as the 3-5 morning-line favorite May 18 for the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the May 21 Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course.
Although Doug O’Neill said “in an ideal world, we wanted to be outside anyone who had speed,” the trainer said drawing relatively inside in the 11-horse field would be fine for Nyquist.
“I probably shouldn’t answer this, because [Mario Gutierrez] is riding, but I don’t think it [matters in an 11-horse field],” O’Neill said. “Like every race, we need a good, clean trip and we’ve got to be lucky We’re very optimistic. We’re going to break good, get good position, and be OK.”
