Cardinals get a vintage performance from Adam Wainwright

ST. LOUIS — Adam Wainwright’s first inning looked familiar. The first batter of the game, Charlie Blackmon, lined a deep drive into the right-center field gap, a hit that glanced off Randal Grichuk’s glove for a triple. Much of Wainwright’s first two months have been spent watching balls dive-bomb into gaps, slam off walls and elude the grasp of his fielders.

But something new and something vintage helped change the course of Wainwright’s evening in the early innings of the St. Louis Cardinals’ 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. The team can only hope it will change the course of Wainwright’s season as well.
