Merrifield notches hit in big league debut

KANSAS CITY — After being called up earlier in the day, Royals left fielder Whit Merrifield recorded the first hit of his Major League career in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.
In his first Major League at-bat in the third, Merrifield battled back from an 0-2 count, though he would eventually fly out.
