Royals add Merrifield, send Colon to Omaha

Utility player Whit Merrifield will be available to make his first Major League appearance for the Royals in tonight’s nightcap of a doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Merrifield, 27, was called up from Triple-A Omaha following Game 1 of the doubleheader and the club optioned Christian Colon to Omaha. In addition, the Royals designated outfielder Jose Martinez for assignment.
