Whatever happened to Michael Pineda?

PHOENIX — A little over a year ago, on May 10, 2015, Michael Pineda threw arguably the best game by a New York Yankees starter all season.
On that day, Pineda held the Baltimore Orioles to one run over seven innings and struck out 16 batters, tying the franchise record for the most K’s by a right-handed pitcher (David Cone) and tying the major league record for the most strikeouts in a start of seven innings or less. At the close of business, Pineda was 5-0 with a 2.72 ERA. He was a monster on that day.
But since that day, Pineda has been, well, monstrous.
Pineda’s decline briefly became an issue when he got shelled in his next two starts. But that was pooh-poohed and ridiculed by Joe Girardi, and then faded into memory as the game receded further into the past.
