Cardinals look a little sleepy in ho-hum loss to Rockies

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals hoped they could come home and get a running start for their second shot at the first-place Chicago Cubs next week. They were coming off a promising road trip out west and due to face a couple of middling teams.
But in the opening game of their nine-game homestand on Tuesday, they stumbled to a 3-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
It had a sleepy feel to it. The Cardinals were off Monday, but they were largely consumed with trying to catch up on their rest. Their chartered flight from Los Angeles didn’t reach St. Louis until about 5 a.m.
