Men’s 50m butterfly
Andrey Govorov (UKR) claimed the crown in 22.92 ahead of Laszlo Cseh (HUN) and Ben Proud (GBR) on 23.31 and 23.34. Proud got the best start but Govorov was into his stroke and thundering into a solid lead within 10 strokes. He tightened in the closing 5 metres, indicative of the challenge he still faces over 100m, but had done enough to be crowned dash king.
Two years ago in Berlin, Govorov and Proud shared bronze in 23.21, while the gold was also shared in an historic result of four medals for four men, no silver, Florent Manaudou (FRA) and Yauhen Tsurkin (BLR) matched at 23.00.
