Astros put Gomez on DL, recall Moran, Gattis

CHICAGO — The Astros placed struggling outfielder Carlos Gomez on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a bruised left rib cage, replacing him on the 25-man roster with third-base prospect Colin Moran, who is set to join the team for Tuesday’s opener of a three-game series against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
In addition, the Astros officially recalled catcher Evan Gattis from Double-A Corpus Christi and designated right-handed pitcher Asher Wojciechowski for assignment. Gattis, 29, joins the team after playing seven games at Double-A Corpus Christi to work on his catching skills, and he hit .360 with three homers and six RBIs.
Gomez was hitting .182 with no homers, five RBIs and 46 strikeouts in 121 at-bats for the Astros. After failing to catch a costly fly ball in Sunday’s loss at Boston, a frustrated Gomez …
