Landa impresses against the clock

GREVE IN CHIANTI, Italy (VN) — Team Sky enjoyed its day in the Tuscan hills south of Florence on Sunday. The rain spat down on the Giro d’Italia riders in the time trial, but Sky’s Spanish star Mikel Landa managed better than anyone had expected over the 40.5-kilometer course and took a step towards winning the race.
2013 victor Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) fared best out of the classification hopefuls, finishing 2:13 minutes behind stage winner Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo). Landa, however, was on his heels and ahead of the others. He now sits eighth overall after stage 9, ahead of Monday’s rest day, only 10 to 15 seconds down on his main rivals.
