Season review
Coming off the back of the club’s best ever Premier League finish in 2014/15, there were few signs of the problems to come for Garry Monk – particularly when Swansea began the campaign by picking up eight points in four games in August. A come-from-behind win over Manchester United was the highlight, their third in a row against Louis van Gaal’s side.
But what followed was a miserable run of form that would cost Monk his job. Eliminated from the Capital One Cup by Hull, the only team that Swansea beat between September and Christmas was Aston Villa. Amid talk of dressing room problems, a 3-0 home defeat to Leicester that left the Swans just two points above the drop zone proved the final straw.
