McLeish backs Gers’ Barton move

Alex McLeish believes Joey Barton would bring “vision, calmness and drive” to Ibrox if he were to join Rangers.
The 33-year-old midfielder is in talks with the Glasgow club over a three-year contract and visited the stadium and the club’s Auchenhowie training ground on Saturday.
Barton won Burnley’s Player of the Year award and was named in the Sky Bet Championship team of the year as the Clarets won the league but was reportedly only offered a one-year extension at Turf Moor and wants a longer deal.
Former Rangers boss McLeish says Barton would still have plenty to offer the club who return to the Premiership next season after a four-year absence.
“It is a really interesting one,” he said. “I heard it from a taxi driver last night and I said, ‘Och, I’ve heard all these stories before, it will be a lookalike or something’. But that would be a very ambitious signing and I think he would bring a lot to Rangers.
