Andy Murray: ‘I didn’t warm up. Djokovic and Nishikori have a similar game’

In the last two years Andy Murray”s improvements on clay have been impressive, in terms of game, movements and results. What has been the turning point? “I think a lot happened in few tough days, actually. At the end of Munich last year and the first round that I played in Madrid, really. You know, winning my first title on clay has given me a lot of confidence. That match could have gone either way. You know, it was a very close final and then arrived on Monday, played Kohlschreiber. I think — I know we walked on court after 1:00 in the morning in Madrid. Came through a really tough match there. And that was really important, because I kept my momentum going there and managed to end up winning the tournament in Madrid, beating Nishikori, Raonic, and Rafa. And I had never beaten players of that ranking on such a consistent basis on a clay court before.”
Andy feels better than last year: “I think I”m in a better place. I think I have made some improvements in my game. You know, last year I was winning a lot of matches at this time of year, but I do think I”m playing better tennis this year. I think my serve has had a big improvement for me.” Today he did not have any problem against Lucas Pouille, beaten 6/2 6/1.
