Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid missed out on winning La Liga despite beating Deportivo La Coruna 2-0 at the Riazor on Saturday. Ronaldo bagged a first-half brace before making way at the break, but it wasn’t enough as Los Blancos finished a point behind champions Barcelona in second place.

Barca retained the title after winning 3-0 in Granada, per BBC Sport, at the same time Real sealed their victory.

Ronaldo scored twice and saw two more efforts thwarted by the woodwork in the opening 45 minutes. But he didn’t just have to settle for second in the title race, as the Portuguese also finished behind Barca’s Luis Suarez in the battle for the Pichici, the award for La Liga’s top scorer, per WhoScored.com.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane fielded his strongest possible starting XI. That meant a start for wide forward Gareth Bale, per Sky Sports Revista de La Liga:
