Miller’s strong start comes apart in 6th

PHOENIX — Jeff Samardzija allowed just one run over eight innings and got a three-run homer from Joe Panik as the Giants defeated the D-backs for the second straight game, 3-1, on Friday night at Chase Field.
Samardzija (5-2) worked out of jams in the first two innings, but managed to settle in after that, retiring 10 of the last 11 batters he faced.. The lone damage the D-backs could inflict on him was when Shelby Miller led off the fifth with a triple and scored as Jean Segura followed with a single to center.
