Matt Harvey stumbles, Mets’ bats quiet in 5-2 loss at hitter-friendly Coors Field

DENVER — Matt Harvey enjoyed a meteoric rise at the outset of his big-league career. This season has been downright mediocre.
Harvey was charged with five runs in 5 2/3 innings. And a night after getting blanked by Clayton Kershaw in Los Angeles, the New York Mets’ bats failed to awaken at hitter-friendly Coors Field in what became a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
Harvey surrendered 11 hits — the second-most in a start in his career. Only a 13-hit performance by the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 24, 2013 exceeded that total. That was Harvey’s last appearance before getting shut down with a UCL tear and ultimately undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Harvey’s ERA climbed to 4.93.
