Yankees call up prospect Sanchez, option Olson

NEW YORK — The Yankees on Friday promoted Gary Sanchez, who is rated as their No. 3 prospect by MLBPipeline.com, as they prepare to face a pair of tough left-handers in this weekend’s series against the White Sox.
The Scranton (Pa.) Times-Tribune first reported on Sanchez’s callup, which will give New York another right-handed bat to help counter left-handed starters Chris Sale and Jose Quintana. Prior to the Yankees’ 7-3 victory over the Royals on Thursday, manager Joe Girardi had said that promoting a right-handed hitter would be a topic of discussion.
