Even bad ideas at Michigan are good on satellite-camp circuit

No big developments broke Wednesday in the world of Michigan satellite camps — and by nothing big, I mean coach Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines took no apparent steps toward staging an event next month on an actual satellite.

Sure, reports surfaced that Michigan is exploring options in Samoa and Hawaii. But after the Tuesday night splash of news that Prokick Australia will host a group of U-M coaches on June 3, it’s going to take something extraordinary to capture our attention again.

Perhaps a visit to Cuba, with an assist from Tom Brady and his wife, Gisele, who recently skipped the Met Gala to vacation in the Caribbean nation. Or were they, in fact, scouting for Harbaugh?

It’s also possible, too, that we’re looking at this all wrong. Maybe Wednesday remained quiet because, at the source of Michigan’s next notable camp unveil, everyone was asleep while we waited by our phones for word. Think Nigeria, a budding hotbed of football talent, or somewhere in eastern Asia, home to approximately one-third of the Earth’s population.

Surely, someone there can play left tackle.

If you can’t tell, I’m not at all serious about the idea of scouring the world for football talent through the proliferation of satellite camps. Nor can Michigan be serious about efficiently using its precious offseason hours if it plans to jettison to Australia for a look at the next set of kicking prospects.
