Tony Stewart faces a challenging road ahead as he tries to make the Chase in his final season before retirement.
The Stewart-Haas Racing driver made his return to the Sprint Cup Series three weeks ago after recovering from the back injury suffered in January that sidelined him for eight races.
Thanks to a sixth-place finish by relief driver Ty Dillon at Talladega Superspeedway, Stewart has made a slow move up the point standings, where he must finish inside the top 30 and have a win to be eligible for the Chase.
He led laps and finished 12th last weekend at Kansas Speedway but goes into Sunday’s AAA 400 Drive for Autism at Dover knowing full well there’s much room for improvement. Stewart’s won three times at “The Monster Mile,” with his last victory coming in 2013.
