Royals schedule exam for Medlen’s sore shoulder

NEW YORK — Royals manager Ned Yost said after the Royals’ 7-3 win over the Yankees on Wednesday night that right-hander Kris Medlen will be examined by a physician on Thursday after experiencing right shoulder soreness in his last start.
Medlen’s ERA ballooned to 7.77 after his second successive poor outing on Tuesday in the Royals’ 10-7 loss to the Yankees. Medlen gave up a career-high nine runs (six earned) in his previous start, against the Nationals, then gave up four runs in two-plus innings on Tuesday.
