Romanian girls Adriana & Beata write history in Lucerne

Lucerne, Switzerland, May 11, 2015 – With qualifying for the main draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships in Lucerne on Wednesday Adriana-Maria Matei and Beata Vaida wrote history for Romania. The young pair defeated teams from Paraguay, Norway and Poland to be the first women’s team from Romania to compete in a FIVB event. “We’re very happy with this day”, 18-year old Beata said. “Probably tomorrow this will really sink in and I will feel the happiness even more.” “There was a lot of pressure on us”, Adriana (17) added. “This is our first FIVB tournament. We started playing beach volleyball only a year ago and we are the only team from Romania.” Their third round match against Poland’s Martyna Kloda and Agata Trybula (21-18, 20-22, 15-7) was the toughest one of the day and the only three-setter.
