Bruce Smith to Have No. 78 Retired by Bills: Date, Comments and Reaction

The Buffalo Bills will honor the NFL’s all-time sacks leader prior to their Week 2 home opener against the New York Jets by retiring Bruce Smith’s No. 78, the team announced Wednesday:

The 52-year-old Smith retired following the 2003 season with 200 career sacks. He was named to the Pro Bowl 11 times, twice won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award and was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
