Cardinals continue to afflict the downtrodden teams

ANAHEIM, Calif. — If the St. Louis Cardinals really are the “best worst team in baseball history,” as ESPN Stats & Information recently posited, this might be the time to put the emphasis on the first adjective in that phrase.
After Tuesday night’s 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels, the Cardinals have a golden opportunity to make their long-awaited move.
Between now and the next visit by the front-running Chicago Cubs in a couple of weeks, the Cardinals play nothing but mediocre and struggling teams, starting with the depleted Angels, continuing up the freeway against the Los Angeles Dodgers sans Clayton Kershaw and then at home against the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks.
