Yankees dodge old age and Lorenzo Cain

NEW YORK — It happens to everyone as you age. What once were little aches that you just shook off become a little more nagging.
On Tuesday, the latest member of the New York Yankees to sit was Mark Teixeira. He has neck spasms, which might have been caused by watching his average fall. He has just four hits in his last 37 at-bats and is down to .202 on the season.
The 35-year-old Teixeira, who is day-to-day, joined 40-year-old Alex Rodriguez (hamstring), the 32-year-old Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) and 35-year-old CC Sabathia (groin) to combine for around three-quarters of a billion dollars — yes, that’s a “b” — worth of salary on the sidelines.
