Marlins place Ogando on DL with broken rib

MIAMI — Marlins reliever Nefi Ogando, who was involved in a collision on Sunday while covering first base, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a fractured rib on his right side. Right-hander Nick Wittgren, the club’s No. 21 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, was called up from Triple-A New Orleans.
Ogando had a 3.00 ERA in three big league appearances, while Wittgren allowed one run in two innings over two relief outings in his first stint with the Marlins this season.
The Marlins initially were hopeful Ogando was just dealing with a bruise, because initial X-rays were inconclusive. The injury occurred in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 6-5 loss to the Phillies, as Cesar Hernandez bounced a grounder that drew first baseman Justin Bour toward second base. Ogando …
