ST. LOUIS — Another failed attempt to finish off a series means another Game 7 for the St. Louis Blues. The Dallas Stars clung desperately to an early lead to escape St. Louis with a 3-2 win and force Game 7 on Wednesday in Dallas.
How it happened: The Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, chasing goalie Brian Elliott in the process, and then hung on for their lives.
Dallas struck fast. Mattias Janmark opened the scoring, and 20 seconds later, Vernon Fiddler scored his first goal of playoffs, thereby sucking the life out of a building that was anticipating elimination.
The Stars entered this game with just one power-play goal in the series but doubled that total when Jason Spezza toe-dragged his way to his fifth goal of the postseason and first of this series.
In the second period, the Blues poured it on and dominated zone time against a Stars team that was on its heels. St. Louis won seemingly every puck …
