Offensive onslaught continues for Red Sox with season-high 14 runs

BOSTON — Even before they hung a season-high 14 runs on the Oakland Athletics on Monday night at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox were the highest scoring team in the American League.
Never mind that their leadoff man had a .295 on-base percentage or that their No. 5 hitter was slugging .422.
Indeed, there’s something scary about this Red Sox lineup, and it goes beyond the four home runs Sunday night in New York or the relentless pounding it doled out to A’s ace Sonny Gray in a six-run fourth inning of a 14-7 victory that felt like it might never end.
The Sox have the look of an offensive juggernaut, scoring at least five runs in 12 of the last 19 games and averaging 5.15 runs per game overall, and neither Mookie Betts nor Hanley Ramirez has gotten hot yet.
