Tigers’ Ausmus brushes off job security talk

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Brad Ausmus made a vow in his first round of interviews with the Detroit Tigers before he was hired as manager.
He told then-general manager Dave Dombrowski that he would never let his job security dictate his decisions on the field.
“I will never make a decision because I’m afraid to be second-guessed by the media. I’ll never make a decision because I’m afraid to lose my job,” Ausmus said of his promise in Monday’s pregame press briefing at Nationals Park.
Now, that proclamation will be put to the test, as Ausmus is fielding questions about his future with the organization following back-to-back sweeps that have left the Tigers two games under .500 at 14-16. His seat is growing warmer by the day, but it’s nothing new for the 47-year-old skipper, who was the subject of scorn and scrutiny from fans after a disappointing 2015 season as well.
