Spurs’ Buford named 2015-16 Executive of the Year

(AP) — R.C. Buford has forged a reputation as one of the NBA’s best general managers over the last decade in part by never becoming too intoxicated by the quick-fix schemes that tempt so many executives during free agency every July.

But when it was time for the San Antonio Spurs to finally wade into those perilous waters, Buford proved to be a smashing success.

Buford was named the NBA’s executive of the year on Monday for his efforts in helping the Spurs take a decidedly different path in the offseason to reshape the roster and keep the machine rolling.

It was Buford’s second award in the last three seasons. He led the field with 77 total points in voting by fellow NBA executives. Portland’s Neil Olshey finished in second place and Golden State’s Bob Myers was third.
