DURANT, OKC SAVE THEIR SEASON | PLAYOFF SCHEDULE | EXPERT BRACKETS
The Oklahoma City Thunder entered Sunday’s Game 4 knowing it was the biggest game of their season. They trailed the San Antonio Spurs 2-1 in their second-round series, and another loss at home would almost certainly mean doom. After falling behind by double digits, Oklahoma City roared back to earn a 111-97 win, tying the series as it goes back to San Antonio.
Five things to know:
1. Kevin Durant took over this game: Early in the fourth quarter, TNT analyst Chris Webber asked whether this could be Durant’s last game for the Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Oklahoma City was trailing, and everyone knows what the conversation around Oklahoma City will be when its season ends.
Shortly after Webber’s comment, Durant caught fire and shut down that speculation for now. He tied his playoff career high of 41 points, scoring 17 of them on 6-for-6 shooting in the final frame. The Spurs scored 16 points as a team in the quarter.
Durant hit jumper after jumper, including a corner 3-pointer that served as the dagger, but he also made plays for his teammates. Once he got going, he was the Thunder’s primary facilitator down the stretch. You can probably expect this to keep happening because of how well it worked.
“He was great, he was great,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “I don’t know how else to say it. He was fantastic.”
