WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals delivered with their season on the line Saturday night in a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins to extend this excellent series to a Game 6 on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. The Penguins lead the series 3-2.
How it happened: A series that had combined for just one power-play goal in four games suddenly saw each team connect on Saturday night.
T.J. Oshie’s power-play goal four minutes into the second period would stand up as the winner. Alex Ovechkin also opened the scoring with a power-play blast in the first period.
The biggest goal of the night, however, was Justin Williams beating Penguins goalie Matt Murray five-hole midway through the second period, with the goal giving the Caps an important two-goal cushion and allowing them to cruise from there.
