Jermain Defoe scored his 15th goal of the season during Saturday’s Week 37 Premier League action against Chelsea, firing Sunderland out of the relegation zone in the process.
His strike resulted in a 3-2 win for the Black Cats, and with Newcastle United only managing a scoreless draw against Aston Villa, Sunderland now lead the Magpies by a point and still have a match in hand.
Manchester United beat Norwich City 1-0 thanks to a goal from Juan Mata, and Swansea City crushed West Ham United 4-1 in London.
