Heidrich’s blocking, Zumkehr defense leads Swiss women to Sochi final

Sochi, Russia, May 7, 2016 – Joana Heidrich’s block and Nadine Zumkehr’s defense played a vital part in the Swiss pairs second trip to a FIVB World Tour finale after their two-set win over the experienced German tandem of Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler in the second women’s semi-final here Saturday evening in the US$150,000 Sochi Open.
With their 2-0 (22-20, 25-23) win in 40 minutes over the ninth-seeded Holtwick and Semmler, the fourth-seeded Heidrich and Zumkehr will meeting sixth-seeded Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez in the Sochi Open finale Sunday afternoon after the Spanish girls eliminated third-seeded and defending Sochi Open champions Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth of Italy 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) in 39 minutes in Saturday’s first semi-final.
