Perez expected to miss 8-12 weeks

CLEVELAND — Indians catcher Roberto Perez is expected to miss the next eight to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery on Friday morning to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb.
Perez’s surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Graham in Akron, Ohio.
Perez sustained the injury in the fifth inning of Cleveland’s 4-3 loss to the Phillies on Saturday. On a bounced pitch from Joba Chamberlain, the catcher quickly retrieved the baseball in front of the plate and made a diving tag on Odubel Herrera with the ball in his right hand. It is not clear exactly when Perez broke his thumb, but the injury occurred at some point during that play.
