Source: Richards to have Tommy John surgery

Angels right-hander Garrett Richards has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, sources tell MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. The club has not confirmed the news, which was first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan.
The hard-throwing Richards owns a 2.34 ERA in six starts this season after logging a 3.65 ERA in 207 1/3 innings in 2015. He broke out in 2014 with a 2.61 ERA over 26 starts before his season ended prematurely due to a knee injury. Richards was scratched from his planned start on Friday, citing fatigue; he had exited his previous outing against the Rangers on Sunday with dehydration and cramping.
