Britton clears hurdle, gets closer to return

BALTIMORE — Closer Zach Britton is “very” close to a return to game action, manager Buck Showalter said on Thursday afternoon, as the lefty crossed a big hurdle in his recovery in doing some on-field defensive work.
Britton has been sidelined with a sprained left ankle, an injury sustained on Saturday night, and the O’s would like to get him through an outing without any issues before they send down a reliever and add infielder Paul Janish for infield depth. Janish’s wife is slated to have labor induced in Houston on Friday, though Janish has not gone on the paternity list in order to give the Orioles a more flexible timeline as to when he can be added.
