Two years ago, Johnny Manziel was still days away from becoming the Browns’ first-round pick. A lot has happened since then, most of it bad. On Wednesday, he turned himself into police following an April 26 indictment on a misdemeanor assault charge.
Now facing issues much bigger than football, Manziel’s NFL career is on hold indefinitely. His father said in February that Manziel wouldn’t live to see his next birthday if he didn’t get help, a sentiment echoed last month by the most recent agent to fire Manziel, Drew Rosenhaus.
Perhaps in an effort to reach out, Manziel’s college coach, Kevin Sumlin, said earlier this week that he’s been unable to get in touch with the former Heisman Trophy winner.
