Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez continues to puzzle with up-and-down outing

CLEVELAND — It’s hard to know just what type of performance the Detroit Tigers are going to get out of starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez and Wednesday’s 4-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians was another prime example.
Following a leadoff walk to Carlos Santana to begin the game, Sanchez looked like he was dealing. After retiring the next eight batters faced, it seemed as if the Tigers were getting a glimpse of the lights-out version of the pitcher at his very best.
But Sanchez’ outing took a sharp turn in the fourth. Another leadoff walk to Santana, a pitch that hit Francisco Lindor, two consecutive hits, a wild pitch and a double and the Tigers were staring down a 4-0 hole.
And then again, a flash of the dominant Sanchez, as he retired nine batters in a row.
