OKC’s take on Aldridge: ‘One man can’t beat us’

With LaMarcus Aldridge having scored 79 points in Games 1 and 2 vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals, there is understandably a question of whether the Thunder should start bringing more help in the form of double teams to stop the San Antonio Spurs’ big man from roasting them alive.
OKC isn’t biting.
After the Thunder tightened up their pick-and-roll coverage in Game 2, the Spurs went to Aldridge relentlessly in the post. He scored more points, but was slightly less efficient, and more importantly, the Spurs’ offense got all sorts of discombobulated. Dion Waiters put it plainly on Wednesday after Thunder practice.
“One man can’t beat you,” Waiters said of Aldridge’s performance. “We’re fine with that. If they want to continue to get out of their offense and throw the ball down there to him, we’re fine with that. One man can’t beat you. We’ve just got to make adjustments, and make it tough for him. He’s a great player in this league, an All-Star, he’s playing tremendous right now, but we’re fine with one guy trying to beat us.”
