That’s how Martin Tyler described Leicester City’s fairytale title win live on Sky Sports on Monday evening, as the final whistle blew on Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea.

What a weekend

I commentated on both Manchester United v Leicester and Chelsea v Tottenham at the weekend and saw Leicester across the line.

I was the first to be able to announce live on television that Leicester were champions, which was a great privilege. I shall be there on Saturday to see them lift the trophy.

You never tire of that feeling of seeing history made before your eyes. It’s a real privilege to broadcast these events to you. Here are some of the key stats from this remarkable story.

Champions of England

Leicester have won their first Premier League title and the first time they’ve been champions of England.

Leicester are the first new addition to the list of English top division winners since Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest back in 1978.

The Foxes are the first team from outside of London or Manchester to win the Premier League since Blackburn in 1995. They are the first team ever from outside London or Lancashire (in old money) to win the Premier League.

Club records

77 points is a top-division record for Leicester, beating their previous best over 38 games by 22 points – and there are still two games to go.

Ranieri’s side have won 22 games this season, another club top-division record. Beats the 21 wins in 1928/29 and 1965/66 seasons.

39 points at the King Power Stadium is a Premier League best for the club, as is the 38 points so far won on the road.

Leicester have lost just three games this season. Their previous lowest total in the Premier League was 11.

Champion comparisons
