Sanchez happy Broncos didn’t add veteran QB

At the start of the offseason, the Denver Broncos had three quarterbacks. Then Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler signed with the Texans in free agency, and suddenly this dude named Trevor Siemian was the only one left. Considering the Broncos drafted Siemian in the late rounds of the 2015 draft to be a developmental backup prospect, it seemed fairly obvious that they’d go after a starter elsewhere.
There were a ton of rumors about the Broncos chasing everyone from Colin Kaepernick to Robert Griffin III to Sam Bradford, but in the end, the only quarterback they acquired prior to the 2016 draft was Mark Sanchez. The former Jets and Eagles starter is not exactly the best option in the world (he’s basically only had one season of above-average QB play), but he’s not the worst, either.
Heading into the draft, still more rumors swirled the Broncos swinging a trade to acquire a potential starter ahead of Sanchez — most notably Kaepernick. But the draft came and went without that happening. Instead, Denver GM John Elway traded up from No. 31 to No. 26 in the first round to draft Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch.
And while Lynch is undoubtedly Denver’s QB of the future, Sanchez feels secure in his role as the quarterback of now.
