Top 100 pitchers Jeff Hoffman (No. 49) and Braden Shipley (No. 64) squared off Sunday in the final game of the four-game set between Triple-A Albuquerque and Reno, and both hurlers were electric.

Hoffman, No. 5 on the Rockies’ Top 30, turned in his best start of the season for the Isotopes, firing seven scoreless innings, during which he allowed just three hits (all singles). The right-hander matched his season high with six strikeouts and did not issue a walk in the outing, his first walk-less performance of 2016, with 68 of his 99 pitches going for strikes.

The 23-year-old righty, acquired from Toronto in the Troy Tulowitzki blockbuster last July, has pitched brilliantly in his first taste of the Triple-A level, going 2-0 in five starts with a 1.52 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 25/9 K/BB ratio in 29 2/3 innings.

Shipley, meanwhile, managed to keep the opposing team off the board for a second straight start, tossing six scoreless innings of four-hit ball with five strikeouts and two walks. Since giving up six earned runs in his outing on April 21, the D-backs’ No. 1 prospect has rattled off 13 consecutive scoreless frames across his past two starts, with just seven hits allowed and 13 strikeouts in that span. On the season, the 24-year-old is 2-1 with a 3.26 ERA and 20/6 K/BB ratio in 30 1/3 innings (five starts).

Though both Hoffman and Shipley were at their best, neither right-hander was able to pick up a win in Sunday’s game, which ultimately was won by Reno on Peter O’Brien’s (D-backs’ No. 10) walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning. The long ball was O’Brien’s eighth of the season and moved him into a tie for the Minor League lead.
