Mike Rhodes sees future in MMA analysis following fighting career

With his mixed martial arts career temporarily on hold, UFC veteran Mike Rhodes has had a jam-packed schedule outside of the cage, which includes competing at the Chicago Spring International Open Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship last month. Rhodes’ career in the cage is not on hold by choice, however. Ever since his UFC release at the beginning of 2015, he has had difficulty finding fights on the regional circuit. And when he recently moved up in weight, Biggie noticed that the middleweight division is very shallow outside of the UFC, and that there are even fewer 185-pound fighters willing to square off with him.

With that being said, Rhodes is not stepping away from the sport, by any means. The Iowa-native is still eager to compete in MMA and has a fight possibly lined up for June. At only 26-years old, he believes he still has years of competition and another UFC run left under his banner. He believes there are still improvements to be made to his game. He likely hasn’t even hit his physical prime yet, either.  However, he has retirement plans, as any fighter should. He knows what he wants to do after his MMA career is over.

Rhodes, who trains out of Roufusport in Milwaukee, WI, hopes to become an MMA analyst following his fighting career.

“I think it’d be cool to do something like that,” he told BloodyElbow.com’s The MMA Circus. “I have a vast knowledge of the sport, I think I’m pretty well spoken when it comes to the MMA community and things I see during fights. I think that you can train somebody outside the MMA world to be a pretty decent commentator or TV personality, but if they don’t really train [in MMA], they miss out on little nuances and things that I see as a fighter and the other fighters. That’s why I think Tyron Woodley is being accepted into that world and praised, because he’s really, really good at it.

“I think it’s just the ability to know what’s happening in a fight at all times, to be able to verbalize that. I think I can do that.
