Bonifacio likely candidate for bench callup

CHICAGO — The Braves shortened their bench when they opted for a 13-man pitching staff over most of the past two weeks in an attempt to account for some of their weaknesses on the mound.
After Saturday’s game against the Cubs was postponed because of rain, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez indicated that a pitcher could be replaced by the addition of a position player before Sunday afternoon’s series finale at Wrigley Field. Emilio Bonifacio appears to be the most likely candidate to be promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett to join Atlanta’s roster.
