EPL Results: Saturday’s Week 36 Scores, Updated 2016 Premier League Table, Odds
- Updated: April 30, 2016
Newcastle United took an important step toward Premier League survival on Saturday as they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at St James’ Park to climb out of the bottom three for the first time since Valentine’s Day.
A last-gasp penalty for Jermain Defoe salvaged a point for Sunderland away at Stoke City, though, so the Black Cats are just one point behind the Magpies with a game in hand and a much better goal difference.
In the race for the top four, West Ham United leapfrogged Manchester United on goal difference thanks to their 3-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion.
Meanwhile, Everton dispatched Bournemouth 2-1 at Goodison Park and 10-man Aston Villa suffered a late collapse away at Watford as the Hornets came from behind to win 3-2.
Here are all the scores and the latest standings after Saturday’s matches, complete with updated top-four and survival odds:
Saturday Recap
Karl Darlow was the hero in Newcastle on Saturday as he made a number of key saves, including a penalty stop from former Magpies midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
The ‘keeper made excellent saves to deny the Frenchman and Yannick Bolasie in the first half before Andros Townsend curled in a stunning free-kick in the second half, per the Premier League:

After the winger’s fourth goal for the club since joining in January, it was Darlow again who proved vital when Palace were inexplicably handed a penalty, per the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope:
Shocking decision. “Handball” against Sissoko – nowhere near. Justice served as Darlow saves Cabaye pen. SJP erupts.
