WTA MADRID: Can Victoria Azarenka Continue her Merry-making Form?

The Madrid Open received its first major casualty as world no. 1 and last year’s semi-finalist, Serena Williams pulled out of the tournament with flu. The spate of withdrawals then extended to Venus Williams, who pulled out of the event with a hamstring injury and Belinda Bencic, who has been forced to skip the tournament because of an injury to her back.
The troika of withdrawals hasn’t however marred the qualitative front of the tournament though it has indeed left the field quite open for anyone to stake a claim on the title.
