Global Poker Index: O’Dwyer Again Leads as WPT Seminole Hard Rock Finishes Boost Several

Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player’s results over six half-year periods. For a look at the entire list, visit the official GPI website. Here’s a look at the rankings as of April 27, 2016.

GPI 300 Top 10

There was a bit of movement over the past week at the top of the Global Poker Index overall rankings where Steve O’Dwyer continues to maintain the top position for a 16th-straight week.

Former No. 1 Byron Kaverman dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since February 2015, slipping from No. 2 to No. 12. That helped several players move up a place or two, with Stephen Chidwick reentering the list at No. 10.

Most of the movement came from earlier scores being affected the the GPI’s aging factor and not from recent finishes. The only new tournament scores of significance among this group were made by Nick Petrangelo and Anthony Zinno.

Petrangelo finished fourth in the $25,500 buy-in World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino High Roller a week ago, with the points resulting from that helping him move up from No. 7 to No. 5. Fedor Holz cashed in 13th in the same event, but the points weren’t enough to affect his GPI standing.

Meanwhile Zinno took 11th in the $10K WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Finale won by David “Chino” Rheem to help him …
