Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia show signs of life in another loss

ARLINGTON, Texas — It was October 2009 when CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez were on top of the baseball world. Sabathia, in what should be mentioned as one of the great postseason pitching runs of all time, dominated on short rest time after time, while A-Rod hit clutch home runs on almost a nightly basis as the New York Yankees won the World Series.
Those Cy Young and MVP-type days are long gone. These days, Sabathia is a fifth starter, asked to be decent, while Rodriguez’s official work days can be measured in minutes as he is strictly a designated hitter.
But if this 2016 Yankees team is going to have any hope of making the playoffs, these two guys need to be a shade of their former selves — more dependable than dynamic, but contributors nonetheless.
