Aledmys Diaz, Cardinals continue their April romp

PHOENIX — With a sharp groundout to shortstop in the ninth inning, Aledmys Diaz became the major leagues’ leading hitter, and it isn’t close. Let that one sink in.
The St. Louis Cardinals rookie shortstop looks more legit by the day. Diaz homered and had an RBI single in the Cardinals’ 11-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Wednesday. Batting .468, he finally got the requisite plate appearances to qualify for the league lead.
He has plenty of room at the top. The leading hitter in the majors before Diaz qualified, Daniel Murphy of the Washington Nationals, is batting .391.
Diaz could go 1 for his next 38 and he would still be batting .300. He bats eighth for the Cardinals.
