If Miami Heat fans were upset about the officiating before their team’s Game 5 loss to the Hornets, they’re about to throw a fit after what went down in the closing seconds Wednesday night. Heat backers have been furious at the Hornets winning the free throw battle. The Hornets have thrown flopping accusations right back at the Heat. Nobody is enjoying the referees.
Speaking from a neutral point, in the tight moments of this game the officiating was questionable at best. There looked to be a blown goaltending call when Dwyane Wade chased down Courtney Lee on a layup and appeared to touch the ball after it hit the glass. But the potential “make-up call” (if it even was one) was when the Heat had the ball, down two with about 10 seconds left in the game. Wade drove the lane against Lee, and as Kemba Walker helped to the middle, Wade kicked the ball out to Goran Dragic.
Dragic attempted the left corner 3-pointer, but Walker impressively closed back out on the shot …
